NAMM 2011 is even better than CES 2011…

When you’re a music fan and have lots of friends in the industry, it’s not hard to rate the North America Music Marketers (NAMM) show over CES when it comes to overall enjoyment.  It IS hard for Anaheim to compete with Las Vegas in the cool category, but pour in 100,000 musicians or so and Anaheim takes on a life of its own.  Today we saw four separate concert venues and we weren’t even trying to connect.  And that’s not counting the dozens of booth musicians playing non-stop at the show.  The talent displayed at this trade show is awesome, truly awesome.

Day one of the show had many kickoff events, but one that was really special was the Wanna Play Stage where they had major music education supporters give testimonials and gave an award to the winner of the John Lennon music bus best song of the year.  Governor Huckabee showed up to give a hurrah to rebuilding music education into our schoool systems and Natasha Bedingfield sang a couple of songs to get things started.  And finally the winners of the song of the year, Madison Violet, were introduced and played their winning song which was awesome to say the least.

The John Lennon Bus was started many years ago by Yoko Ono Lennon and is supported by many companies.  They have like six separate busses, literally, full of music gear donated by the supporting companies and they tour the country stopping at regular intervals letting school kids come on board and create their own tracks/songs/music videos.  A very cool idea and a very cool implementation.

A couple of other things to share…a few random photos from the floor of the show.

CES 2011 was a great show.

If you’ve never been to a Consumer Electronics Show, you’re missing out. Every year in January the great product companies of the world gather for a few days in Las Vegas to show their latest and greatest.  There are also hundreds of “great wanna-be’s” touting their story and so everywhere you look, there’s something to see that’s new and exciting.  This year 3-D video was probably the biggest theme, just like flat panel display’s were the rave five years ago.  SHARPER COUNSEL was there to check out the audio side of the show looking to meet businesses interested in getting a BUSINESS TUNE-UP and there must have been a couple of hundred of booths to visit.  Needless to say we didn’t get to everyone, but the days were full and we learned a lot and made some new friends.

We’re off to NAMM in Anaheim this week and will have more to share on this great event in a few days.

Happy New Year! We hope you have a great 2011…
